Tips on How to Have a Frugal Spa Day at Home

You’ve had a hard day. There was plenty of stress to go around, and now you just want to relax and forget about everything. Use some of these tips on how to have a frugal spa day at home when your day has been rough or when you want to treat yourself.

* Set aside some time where you can be by yourself. Send the children off to grandma and grandpas or get a babysitter. Turn the telephone and cell phone off. Don’t turn on the television; in fact the only thing electronic you might want going is soothing music playing in the background.

* Place scented candles around your bathroom to create a relaxing ambiance. If you have bubble bath, bath salts, or essential oil in the same fragrance, that would be even better. You would be surrounded by a scent you love.

* While you’re soaking in the bathtub, use a facial mask which you can make from items found in your kitchen. Mix together 2 tablespoons of ground oatmeal, 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, and 5 drops liquid honey in a bowl. Apply to your face and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. Finish off by rinsing with warm water followed by a moisturizer. [Read more...]

Why a Trip to the Spa Can Be Stress-Relieving

You’ve seen them on television and in the movies. Towel-covered women are relaxing, mud on their face, while a therapist is giving them a massage. It looks like heaven and that’s why a trip to the spa can be stress-relieving; when your treatments are over, you feel like a million dollars.

Think of how you feel after a long, stressful day at work or at home with sick children. Your muscles ache and your head pounds. All you want is a few moments of peace to yourself.

Well, why not take the time and pamper yourself? Make an appointment at a day spa and treat yourself to much-needed time to relax and recoup. When you return home, your family may think someone else has walked through the door.

Mainly women visit day spas, but that doesn’t mean men aren’t allowed. In fact, many day spas are beginning to offer their services to men because they can benefit from similar treatments, too. You could find someone to mind the children, if you have them, and you and your partner go for a day at the spa together. [Read more...]

Easy Spa Treatments

Some spa treatments are so quick and easy you don’t have to wait for a special spa day, but can do them any day of the week. Take facials for instance. Steaming the face over a bowl of warm water only takes five minutes. Then you can dab on a nice, gooey mix of banana, honey and yogurt, leave for five minutes or longer if you have time and rinse in tepid water afterwards. A splash with moisturizer and you’re done.

Be kind to your hands every evening by soaking them in a bowl of warm lavender water while you watch television. A quick shape and a gentle massage with nourishing cream will make you feel great and take no more than a few minutes. A milk-based lotion is good for older skins, but anything that has moisturizing properties and a pleasant aroma is great.

Ten minutes on the sofa is all it takes to be kind to tired eyes. Peel up that cucumber, snack on some if you want and then reserve two slices to pop over your eyes. [Read more...]

Your Perfect Spa

By Briana Liebmann

Finding the perfect spa requires much research. There is not just one type of spa. In fact, spas are about as diverse as their customers. In order to find a spa that will fulfill your expectations, decide ahead of time what your goal is. Is it relaxation, rejuvenation, or some form of therapy for a condition or a trouble area you are dealing with? Once you know your expectations, you should familiarize yourself with the different types of spas available to you, what each spa provides, and the amount of time each program takes.

Normally, spas can be classified into four basic categories. The following is a list which also states and defines each category:

1. Fitness: these spas incorporate fitness into the spa routine. Everything from aerobics to sports can be found for people who want to relax and lose weight at the same time. These spas are very therapeutic for active people who enjoy being outdoors, or for those who wish to learn a new activity.

2. Wellness: For people who have certain health issues, licensed health care specialists supervise their clients while first class and clinically effective treatments are administered on the patient’s request. The patients vary from those overcoming an operation to those who are trying to quit smoking or drinking.

SPA TREATMENTS
Widely used in spas, bath salts or salt scrubs made with sea salts are wonderful for their detoxifying properties. The Romans, Greeks and other European cultures have long believed in the benefits of healing through bathing in hotsprings.

SPA TOOLS
If you’re giving yourself a body treatment, have a body brush, loofah or sponge within easy reach. One of the best ways to revive skin is to exfoliate before you get in the shower. The ancient spas of Japan were known for their dry brushing techniques. Gently brush your body using circular motions with a soft body brush, starting at the feet and working your way up. This light brushing technique removes dead skin cells while stimulating circulation.
