What Colors Are Good For Relaxation?

A lot of people are extremely visual. That is, they respond to colors. As such, many people wonder what colors are good for relaxation. After all, it is easy to see that some colors may make you feel uneasy, edgy, excited, et cetera, while others make you feel relaxed, soothed, and completely at peace. The question is, of course, what colors will do that the most?

Without question, the most popular answers here are cool colors like blues and greens. Now, we are not talking lime green and electric blue here. However, forest green can be just as soothing as a soft sea green, and navy can be as calming as a lovely sky blue.

Naturally, derivatives of these colors are considered calming as well. For instance, softer shades of purple – lavender, lilac, violet, and so on – and considered very relaxing. Purple is, of course, considered to be a rather royal color, but it can be quite soothing as well. The key is to look for shades which may have grey mixed in, because then the color is not too stimulating.

Certain shades of aqua are very good for relaxation as well. You do not want a bright, loud shade, but a nice blue green is ideal. By the way, this is because so many shades of blue and green – especially the cooler ones – are found right in nature, so we tend to respond to them on a natural, instinctual level.

As briefly mentioned, a color of blue similar to the shades seen in the sky are considered perfect. This may be a sky blue or it may be the blue grey purple kind of shade seen during dusk.

Neutral colors are largely considered calming as well. Here, the spectrum is very varied. Shades of brown are great, but so are colors like taupe and even mauve. Remember when it seemed like every building from your doctor’s office to the local fast food restaurant was decorated in shades of mauve? That is why!
