Hypnosis Used for Relaxation and Treatment

Hypnosis has been used for centuries to treat anxiety, physical pain and bad habits. Hypnosis treatments vary, but all are used to get subjects into a relaxed, suggestible state.

Hypnotism has been utilized for the treatment of many ills for centuries. The ancient Greeks used it to treat patients and to keep them calm. Today, there are many techniques in use that can accomplish the same thing. The techniques themselves are diverse but accomplish the same thing- to take the subject into a level of relaxation that will leave him calm and susceptible to suggestions.

One of the most famous hypnosis techniques is to lead the subject into the hypnotic state with soothing words. The hypnotist speaks to the subject and asks him to picture specific calming images. Once the subject has reached a state of serenity and relaxation, the hypnotist can begin the words that heal. A subject in this state is highly suggestible and can be told to do things that will have an impact on his life. This may include speaking to the subject about quitting a bad habit or suggesting new and more constructive behaviors.

Another hypnosis technique is to have the subject concentrate on a specific object. This can be the stereotypical pocket watch on a chain, or it may be a coin or a pen. The subject concentrates in the object, never looking away. While the subject’s concentration is focused on the object, the hypnotist speaks calming words. The combination of the soothing voice and the concentration held on one object can induce the subject into the hypnotic state.

Some hypnotists prefer to give the subject an object and have him concentrate on holding it. The relaxing words are spoken and the subject is instructed to relax until he is no longer able to hold the object. Once the object drops, the subject has reached the desired level of relaxation.

Whichever method is used, hypnosis can be highly effective at treating a variety of problems. After using the suggestive state to plant positive ideas, the subject should leave the hypnosis session relaxed and ready to implement his life changes.
